Frequently asked questions

  • Almost anyone can wear contact lenses, from young children to people who have already reached old age. There are so many different types of lenses that even the most ‘difficult’ eyes can often tolerate them. Some eye problems – ‘medical grounds’ – can also be corrected with lenses alone. It is important that someone can take good care of the lenses. Even if you have tried lenses before but could not get used to them, that doesn’t mean there are no options for you at all. A lot has changed in recent years. Feel free to come and talk about it.

  • To answer this, we would first have to look at your eyes and measure them to see what your options are. The main difference between rigid lenses and soft lenses is that rigid lenses last longer and soft lenses are easier to get used to. We can only assess which lenses we consider most suitable for your eyes after the measurements and during the test fitting.

  • Depending on the type of lenses, the adjustment period lasts a few days to a few weeks. Visser Contactlenzen provides clear instructions on how long the lenses can be worn each day during the initial period. We usually follow a progressive schedule: two hours longer each day, so that after a week they can be worn all day. It is important to follow the schedule strictly, even if the lenses are immediately so comfortable that you want to keep them in all day. Your eyes must be given the chance to get used to the new situation. This works better when it is done gradually.

  • Using contact lenses isn’t difficult. Just ask someone who already wears them. Inserting and removing the lenses is a skill that you will master quickly enough. It is important to take your time with this, especially in the beginning. At Visser Contactlenzen, we practice with you first until you feel confident enough to do it alone at home. After a while, you will develop your own routine and it will become a simple procedure. If you still have problems in practice, you can always come back to practice with us again. The aftercare itself is an important reason to choose Visser Contactlenzen.

  • People with a somewhat stronger eye defect will certainly see better with contact lenses than with glasses. The explanation is simple. There is always a certain distance between the eye and the glasses lens, which can cause the image to be distorted. With contact lenses, correction takes place on the surface of the eye: the distance between the lens and the eye is minimal. As a result, with contact lenses you see almost as clearly as someone who has naturally good eyesight. Moreover, contact lenses are worn directly on the eye; that is, they ‘float’ on a layer of tear fluid. When the eye moves, the lens moves with it. With glasses, you see the edges of the frame when you move your eye, or you have to move your head. Many people who switch from glasses to lenses are pleasantly surprised by the improved ‘image quality’.

  • If you only want to wear your lenses occasionally, soft lenses are especially suitable. This is more difficult with rigid lenses: if the lenses haven’t been worn for a while, you gradually have to adjust to them again.

  • If you have ordered lenses for the first time and we have received and checked them, we will call you to make an instruction appointment. During this instruction you will learn how to insert, remove and care for the lenses. The entire instruction takes about an hour. We take our time for this because we believe you should start wearing lenses with confidence. The contact lenses are supplied complete, including a handy starter set with lens case and solution. You will also receive clear instructions for use, which you can read at home at your leisure. If you have any questions or problems, you can always call us. We will also immediately make an appointment with you for the first check-up. Especially in the initial period, we want to check your eyes regularly to make sure the adjustment is going well and to answer any questions you may have.
